Welcome to EarDrugs

pill

The purpose of this site is to highlight GREAT lyrics or music from artist that is appealing to the Ears. Although this is definitely hip hop based, it is not limited to one genre. Good music is good music no matter what genre it is. I would like to also highlight the sounds of producers and beatmakers. ENJOY!!!!

Ed Sheeran's The A Team
Released 2011

Ed

This song is a tale of a young girl that is a sex worker and a drug addict. One of Ed's most popular songs,it's not glorifying the lifestyle at all but the sounds in the music make it very relatible to anyone that has an addict in their family. Most of the time art imitates life, CLASSIC!!!!!

Deangelo's Brown Sugar
Released 1995

Dee

Although the lyrics are clever enough to make you think the song is about a black woman, it has been confirmed the lyrics are about Mary Jane, or beter known as weed. The smooth voice and style Deangelo displayed on this cut made this song an instant classic which had us all singing in harmony about the infamous plant.

Creedence Clearwater Revival's Proud Mary
released 1969

Cree

Ike and Tina Turner's Proud Mary
released 1970

Ike

Although this isn't confirmed, when you listen to the lyrics of the song and the time when the song was written how can you not find the correlation between Proud Mary and Mary Jane. From the writer's explaination, John Fogerty, "Proud Mary is an Ode to a simple existence, and one that encourages others to step back and appreciate things outside their job and the bills they have to pay. "

De La Soul Ft. B Real (Cypress Hill) and J Dilla's PEER PRESSURE
released 2003

Soul

This track was produced by the one and only J Dilla (R.I.P). The track explains the good and bad effects of Mary Jane with a little comical relief. It's all about the pressures of an individual who doesn't indulge in the festivities but is around friends or associates who do indulge apply pressure to the individual who doesn't want to get high.

Lynyrd Skynyrd's That Smell
released 1977

lysky

Released in 1977 although I'm not really familar with their catalog as a whole, they had or have an immense following due to the fact they have relevant music in today's time over 40 years later. I still see people wearing shirts with their band name on the front, which says a lot. Anyhow, the song that smell is about a white substance that is better known as cocaine. Do I need to carrry on??

Amy Winehouse's Rehab
released 2006

amy

The great Amy Winehouse, a dope artist that is gone too soon. Art seems to imitate life so much, she was singing about her actually pain for our entertainment. Rehab is her rebelion from a sober mind or reality. Her music still lives on through the fans that adorn her music. This track is really self explainatory, no need for me to over explain.

Royce da 5'9's Cocaine
released 2018

Roy

An underrated rapper from Detroit bears his soul on the struggles of his father with the use of the white substance. Although his father kicked the addiction, Royce seems to still appreciate his father with the good and bad. He is'nt technically rapping on this song, more like him singing, He is still able to pull off the track with flying colors and one of the highlights of his album, The Book of Ryan.

James Brown's King Heroin
released 1972

James

One of many socially conscience songs from the godfather of soul. This was a cry out for his people to kick the habit from this notoriously addictive drug. It still rings loud and clear today dealing with the opioid addiction that is going on today in this country, just in a different form.

Curtis Mayfield's Pusherman
released 1972

curtis

A classic from the black exploitation film soundtrack Superfly. The lyrics speak of this song speaks for itself, but in context in those days, for the most part songs on a soundtrack ment they went along with the theme or concept of the movie. This artist also has an underrated catalog but heavily sampled.
